Image to DWG: turn a floor plan picture into CAD

Redrawing a plan from a picture is slow. Upload the image instead: the walls are detected, straightened and snapped, and you download a layered CAD file to keep working in.

Accepts JPG, PNG or WebP · outputs layered DXF for AutoCAD, BricsCAD, DraftSight and LibreCAD

No plan at hand?

How it works

  1. Step 1

    Upload a floor plan image.

  2. Step 2

Check the traced walls in the preview.

  3. Step 3

Enter one known length to scale it.

  4. Step 4

Download and open it in your CAD program.

What converts well

You get an editable wall layout to build on, not a finished construction drawing. Here is what to expect.

Works best

Black-and-white floor plans, scans and line drawings: walls come out closed, straight and on their own layer.

Works, with cleanup

Hand sketches and colour renderings: you get the walls, plus extra fixture lines on the OTHER layer to delete.

Not yet

Angled phone photos with strong perspective, very low-resolution images and curved walls.

Frequently asked questions

Do I get a DWG or a DXF file?

A DXF file. It opens directly in AutoCAD and other DWG programs, which can save it as DWG.

What kind of images convert best?

Black-and-white floor plans, scans and clean line drawings give the best result: walls come out as closed, straight polylines. Colour renderings with furniture and floor textures still give you the walls, but expect extra lines on the OTHER layer that you will want to delete.

Is the result a finished CAD drawing?

No. You get an editable wall layout to trace over or build on, not a construction drawing. It saves the hours of redrawing walls by hand; dimensions, annotations and details are still yours to add.

How do I get the real-world scale right?

Enter the length of one wall or dimension line you know, for example 25 ft, and the drawing is scaled so that measurement matches. Without it the file is drawn in pixels.

Which layers are in the file?

WALLS holds the wall outlines, WALL_AXIS the wall centre lines, DOORS the door swings, and OTHER everything else the tracer found, such as fixtures and text strokes. Turn OTHER off for a clean wall plan.

Do you keep my images?

Uploads are processed in memory to make your file and are not stored.
